Cloud Cam of Amazon now has a web interface

Amazon has announced new functionalities for its home security camera Cloud Cam, as well as updates to both the Echo Show and Echo Spot, as reported by Android Police. You can now check Cloud Cam’s live view from a computer, where before it was only available via the app. Also, you can use the command, “Alexa, turn on [camera name]” to turn on your Cloud Cam.

These are both small but very useful additions. Many other security cameras already offer the ability to view footage live online, and it seems odd that Cloud Cam launched with Alexa commands to let you switch between various rooms, but not one to simply turn it on.

Cloud Cam a relatively straightforward device that delivers all the features you would expect out of a home security camera. It doesn’t offer any cutting-edge features you can’t find elsewhere, or an innovative twist on remote monitoring, but it helps Amazon connect another piece of the puzzle, bringing the company ever closer to integrating itself into every aspect of my home life.

There are also now couple of updates to the Echo Show and Echo Spot. They now support two-way audio like a walkie-talkie, and users can opt-in to get motion / person detection alerts on any Echo device. These alerts will appear on-screen as a green ring of light on the Echo and Echo Dot. The frequency of these notifications can be adjusted within the Cloud Cam App and played by asking, “Alexa, what’re my notifications?” or “Alexa, play my notifications.”

These new features/updates seems to be very interesting.

You get 24 hours of cloud storage for one camera with your basic purchase of the hardware. To unlock advanced features, you need to pay for a monthly service subscription. There are currently three tiers:

  • Basic ($6.99 / month, or $69 / year): offers access to the last seven days of motion-detection clips for up to three cameras
  • Extended ($9.99 / month, or $99 / year): offers access to the last 14 days of motion-detection clips for up to five cameras
  • Pro ($19.99 / month, or $199 / year): offers access to the last 30 days of motion-detection clips for up to 10 cameras
